Do you know everything you should about your team and their abilities? Have you determined the best way to utilise their talents?
In our next Feature Focus blog, we’re taking an in-depth look at our Skills Management module, which offers excellent functionality and benefits to help you discover and map the skills and competencies of your workforce.
The easy way to manage skills and certificates
In most cases, the experience and expertise of your team will be crucial to your organisation’s success, which is why getting a comprehensive understanding of each individual is so important. Doing so will not only help you to get the most out of your team, but will also paint a clear picture of company-wide strengths and weaknesses.
Whether you’re an employee, manager or administrator, it’s easy to add, manage and review skills and certifications within HR Planner, so you always have the most up to date information on record.
What can HR Planner do for me?
Alert you of expiring skills and certificates

With our user-friendly interface, you can configure alerts for when skills or certificates are expiring (both before and after), so you never miss a thing!
Store documents

Don’t get lost in mountains of paperwork. Make the most of easy to access documents by adding optional or compulsory supporting documentation uploads for each skill and certificate.
Avoid skill-based staff shortages

HR Planner’s low cover protection capabilities mean that it’s easy to avoid frustrating staff shortages. For example, if you have two people qualified in a specific skill (such as first aid) and one of them is on holiday for a week, you can set your low cover protection to alert you of the skill shortage if the other person requests leave during the same period.
Get just the information you need

We understand that no two organisations are the same, so we’ve designed HR Planner to be completely customisable to your requirements.
It’s easy to define your own custom fields for recording data against skills, such as adding fields for preferred suppliers, the cost of certificates or renewals and satisfaction surveys (coming soon!), so you can instantly see what is important to you.
Define who is responsible for each skill

You can customise who needs to authorise each skill, at a company-wide or individual employee level, as well as who needs to be notified when skills are expiring, making it all easy to manage.
Display handy visual widgets

Each user gets access to their own dashboard which can be personalised to suit you and the information you want to see. You can conveniently add widgets to your dashboard for upcoming skill expirations and define how far ahead to look, as well as whether you want to view by user, department, company or access role.
Note: Each widget can be added multiple times to cover different data sets. For example, you could have an Upcoming Skills Expiration widget for a specific department, alongside a second Upcoming Skills Expiration widget but for company-wide data instead.
Why is skills management important for SMEs?
Keep on top of your team’s qualifications
We’ve designed HR Planner to make it quick and easy to keep on top of expiring skills and certificates. Set how far in advance you want to be notified before a specific skill expires, and we’ll do the rest!
Identify and address skills gaps
Instantly get an insight into your team’s qualifications and identify your organisation’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s easy to find out where any gaps lie, so that you can provide relevant training to upskill your staff.
Create a versatile team
By documenting the skills and competencies of your team in a clear and consistent way, you’ll be equipped with the information needed to identify those that possess a broader range of skills than you may have first thought. This can also support you in your recruitment efforts, where you can identify qualities or traits that are missing in your organisation and would therefore be ideal to find in your next hire.
Demonstrate compliance
In industries where professional qualifications and regulations play a major role (e.g. healthcare or engineering), having a clear picture of your team’s capabilities is invaluable. HR Planner will arm you with the information you need to see who has what qualification and when it expires, meaning you can easily stay on top of everything from safety to quality control.
Support personal and professional development
Skills and certification management makes guiding your staff in their personal and professional development a breeze. You can use the insights provided to help create well-defined learning programmes that are tailored to both individual and organisational needs, helping to make more efficient use of your training budget. It’s also a great way to support, motivate and retain your valuable employees.
