It’s time to refresh and refocus your HR strategy for 2025! This coming year, there are countless opportunities to strengthen your team’s wellbeing, ensure compliance with updated regulations, and foster an inclusive workplace culture.

This guide to essential dates for your 2025 HR calendar will help you plan ahead – whether it’s navigating key payroll deadlines, promoting mental health awareness, or celebrating the diverse experiences of your team.

Key HR dates for 2025

Monday 20th January 2025 – Brew Monday

Following the concept developed by the Samaritans, Brew Monday was created to turn around the idea of ‘Blue Monday,’ often dubbed the year’s most challenging day.

Instead, Brew Monday focuses on encouraging people to check in with each other over a cuppa. For HR teams, this is a great chance to host a small event or provide complimentary refreshments to inspire staff to connect. You could also share information on mental health resources or encourage informal check-ins, fostering an atmosphere of support and connection early in the year.

Tuesday 1st April 2025 – National Wage Increase

The new National Living Wage (NLW) and National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates come into effect from 1st April.

The new hourly rates will be:

  • Age 21 and over – £12.21 rising from £11.44
  • Age 18-20 – £10.00 rising from £8.60
  • Age 16-17 and apprentices – £7.55 rising from £6.40

These updates impact budgeting and payroll operations, and will help show commitment to fair pay practices across the organisation.

Friday 4th April 2025 – Payroll year-end

As the financial year wraps up, ensure all payroll submissions are accurately completed and filed by 4th April to avoid any potential fines or compliance issues. This is also a good time to conduct a payroll review to catch any discrepancies before the end of the tax year. Staying ahead on tax and payroll requirements will support a seamless transition into the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Monday 12th May – Sunday 18th May 2025 – Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual opportunity to emphasise mental wellbeing at work. 2025’s theme focuses on empowering employees with resilience skills and coping mechanisms. Consider organising workshops, group activities, or on-site therapy sessions to give employees tools to manage stress and build a positive outlook. Providing resources and creating a safe space for mental health discussions is a great way to reinforce a supportive work environment.

Sunday 1st June – Monday 30th June 2025 – Pride Month

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and encourage inclusivity. HR teams can help support a diverse workplace by hosting events, sharing educational materials, and fostering open discussions around LGBTQ+ issues. A thoughtful approach to celebrating Pride can help cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, respect, and allyship within your organisation.

Wednesday 1st October – Thursday 31st October 2025 – Black History Month

In October, Black History Month provides an opportunity to acknowledge the history, achievements, and contributions of Black communities. HR teams can arrange events or share content to highlight the importance of cultural awareness and inclusion in the workplace. Consider inviting guest speakers, hosting a panel discussion, or sharing resources that celebrate Black history and promote understanding among your team.

Monday 6th – Sunday 12th October 2025 – National Work-Life Week

National Work-Life Week raises awareness around the importance of balancing work and personal life to prevent burnout and improve overall job satisfaction. HR can play a key role by organising flexible work options, offering mindfulness sessions, or encouraging regular breaks. Creating a supportive environment that promotes work-life balance can improve morale and productivity across the organisation.
